THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO INCREASING YOUR E-BIKE'S BATTERY LIFE
Battery safety and conservation of your E-Bike can be a bit tricky so we have a smart guide to break down some tips that will increase the longevity of your E-Bike's battery life. Let's crack into it with another Freedom Machine guide.
Connect Then Plug In
For the safest charge, always connect the charger to the battery first, then plug it into the wall. This ensures a secure connection before any power flows, reducing the risk of arcing.
Choose The Right Environment
Charge your battery in a clean, dry, and temperature-controlled space. Avoid charging in damp or cluttered areas, messy garages a common source of household accidents. If that sounds familiar, it might be the perfect excuse for a seasonal tidy-up and a safer spot to charge your e-bike.
Top It Off
The best time to charge your e-bike is just before you head out for a ride. Avoid charging immediately after riding - let the battery cool down for at least 30 minutes first. And always check your voltage on the LCD display before you hit the road.
Don't Forget To Unplug!
Set a timer so you don't forget to unplug your battery once it's fully charged. You can use your phone or grab an outlet timer from any hardware store. When the charger light switches from red to green, your battery is full and it's time to unplug, first from the wall, then from the battery.
Hibernation
If you're taking a break from riding over winter, make sure to store your battery indoors and at the proper charge level. Aim to keep it at about 50% while in storage. Since batteries naturally lose charge over time, check it periodically - especially if it's been sitting for tow months or more - and top it back up to 50% when needed.
Remove Your Battery For Travel
Electric bikes make the perfect travel companion, but always remove the battery before loading your bike onto a rack or into a truck bed. To protect the electrical components, use a waterproof cove if there's any chance of rain during transport.Â
The 80/20 Rule
For optimal battery health, try to keep your charge between 80% and 20%. Use your voltage-to-percentage charge to gauge where your battery sits before charing. You can check the voltage on your LCD display or use your battery charge monitor for a precise reading of how much power you're putting back in each time.Â
